Goodbye Tatango, on to the Next Chapter
Posted on 26. Dec, 2009 by Andrew Dumont in Startup Life
As with all good things, they must come to an end. I have been terminated from Tatango, without reason and without warning, on Christmas Eve, no less. This obviously came as a shock to me and has left a fairly rotten taste in my mouth… but only for a minute or two.
Today, the next chapter of my life begins. Over the past two years, I have sacrificed everything for Tatango (friends, school, family, sanity, etc.). But now, I can move on. In a perfect world, maybe things would have ended differently, but that’s neither here nor there. Being totally consumed with my job over the past two years has left me complacent, with no time to explore other opportunities. That ends today. I couldn’t be happier about my current position and what the future holds for me.
My email at Tatango will most likely go dark within the next day or two, so my primary contact is now andrewjdumont@gmail.com or you can send me a note on Facebook or Twitter @AndrewDumont.
In the midst of all this, I want to thank all of the amazing people at Tatango and Derek Media, you know who you are. It was an absolute blessing to spend every day learning, growing and advancing the success of the company with you. There is so much talent dispersed among these two entities, and a bright future ahead for all of you. As for the two companies, I wish them the greatest of success.
I guess what they say is true, everything happens for a reason. I’m reminded of that today.

Baby Dumont- You will be greatly missed! I’m not sure who I will be laughing with now across the office to the mysterious corner where voices of tenants above shout at one another or where teen mothers find it necessary to smoke next to our entrance where the smell of smoke and cancer fills the room… You are an extremely motivated, intelligent, dedicated, and talented young twenty-something individual with a smile that lights up the room
With that being said- I have no doubt that you will go far and be successful in everything you do. You were the best tool in the box. (jk) I’d say good luck- but you don’t need it.

Sounds like things aren’t so good at Tatango if they’re firing the guy that customers communicated with. You were the PERSONAL face of Tatango…
Really hope you’re able to move on to better things… things that reward your hard work.
Best of luck!

I cannot describe in words, the surprise I felt when I heard Andrew was “let go” from Tatango. Andrew Dumont has been a very good friend of mine over the last few years, and I have seen firsthand the sacrifices he has made for this business. It says so much about a man’s character, that he can honestly wish success to Tatango after what just happened. I do not mean to rant about this, but my word… What were they thinking? To so many, Andrew had become the face of this business. Andrew would be a HUGE asset to any business and I can say from the experience I have with Andrew as a friend, that he is genuinely a good man. I certainly cannot say that about everyone. All that said, Andrew, you know you have friends and family that love you and know how amazing you are. Good luck friend, I know I can speak for all who know you when I say, you will do great things.

Not very classy the way they broke the news on Christmas Eve. I do like how you handled it with this post. I know I would have been more tempted to call individuals out and hold them accountable.
Good luck with your future endeavors!

Have to agree with Max. Horrible timing, even immaturity on the part of Tatango to fire him when they did.
I know we don’t know all the reasons, but the fact that the CEO has been dead silent about it makes this reek of “personal”. Which is unfortunate.
Glad to see Andrew take the higher road with it.

That is pretty harsh to be let go on Christmas Eve. I have to agree with Max and Sam that it sounds like spite, more than ability. Sorry to hear that you are parting ways. We wish you the best as you move on.

It’s their loss. You were by far my favorite Tatango representative.

In spite of the news its really cool to see so many people give their support for someone. Well done everybody.
Andrew, you’re a go-getter. I admire your drive and willingness to sacrifice. From basketball to business, keep hustling. Eventually, the ball will be in your court.

Andrew-
Don’t know you, don’t claim to. But you should know that I was touched by the willingness to open up on the blog. Keep writing like that and you’ll have no problem finding the next awesome opportunity. I’ve been there, too. Best of luck in your endeavors, and feel free to reach out should you need anything.
